At Ecosparkle, we believe that clean just isn’t clean unless it’s good for the planet too!
Yet, what if you’re looking for ways to keep your home cleaning routine completely free of chemical products– even the eco-friendly, natural ones?
If that sounds like you, then you’re definitely a good candidate for steam-powered cleaning!
What makes steam cleaning so great? It’s all about the heat!
That’s because the high heat of the steam generated by modern steam cleaners works to destroy pathogens (think bacteria, viruses, mold and fungus) present in the areas we interact with (such as kitchens, bathrooms, banisters, floors and even vehicles).
Furthermore, because the particles present in steam are so small, they penetrate deeply into tiny crevices and small, hard-to-reach areas, which allows stains and stubborn buildup to be lifted easily off of a given surface (including everything from floors, to engines, to carpets). This occurs largely because dirt particles become over-saturated with water, which causes them to expand and leaves them easily wiped-up and removed.
Yet, as with all cleaning tools, the results you’ll see depend on the quality of the unit!
Steam cleaners range widely in price, typically starting at $100 for a budget cleaner (such as the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop, a very highly rated and handy household tool available on Amazon.ca) all the way up to several thousand for commercial-duty cleaners. Your needs will vary depending on the type of cleaning jobs you find yourself facing. Keep in mind that light-duty units simply won’t cut it for frequent, heavy duty cleaning tasks – consider leaving these to the pros on our Green Clean Team.
Typical questions you should ask when evaluating a potential steam cleaner purchase might be:
- Is it high or low pressure? Steamers work at a range of pressures, and those with higher-pressure output are capable of removing more difficult buildup.
- How large is the water tank? Steamers with small capacity tanks can be a pain, as you’ll continually be filling up the reservoir (often before the job is done).
- Do you need an all-in-one handheld unit, or are you fine pulling a steamer behind you? Handheld units offer smaller form-factor, but smaller reservoirs and may not boast the same power of units that are pulled-behind you as you work.
We’re certainly big fans of steam cleaning, which is why we’ve brought high-end steam cleaning power into our home & retail cleaning arsenal!
